Testimonials

Gillian

I have been taking treatments from Alison over the past year or so and have found them to be beneficial for my sciatica. The massage has helped my stiff back, pain, and numbness. The needles are very relaxing and the whole experience has been so lovely. Alison is a very positive and knowledgeable person who has helped me to cope through a difficult time in my life.

Keira

From the moment I arrived Alison made me feel very welcome & comfortable. I’m a fellow group exercise instructor with Alison & I enjoyed the mobility movements along with the massage & stretches.

I felt extremely relaxed afterwards. I was surprised with the internal pressure as it felt different but relieving. I admire Alison’s knowledge & dedication.

Steve

I have now been seeing Alison for 1 year for back issues. I was somewhat sceptical before first going!

I had no reason to worry. Alison is thorough professional and uses her skills to hone into the right areas to relieve symptoms.

ACUPUNCTURE & ACUPRESSURE

Gentle yet powerful techniques for restoring balance

At Kenko Clinic, we use a style of acupuncture that’s a little different to what most people expect. Japanese acupuncture is known for being gentler, more precise, and highly tailored to the individual.

Instead of deep or forceful needling, the Japanese approach is subtle, refined, and responsive — often using just a few very fine needles to create powerful effects. For sensitive clients or those new to acupuncture, this style feels reassuring, safe, and deeply calming

SEKKOTSU BODY REALIGNMENT

At Kenko Clinic, we don’t just treat pain — we look at how the whole body moves, aligns, and supports itself. That’s why we use Sekkotsu, a traditional Japanese manual therapy that focuses on realigning bones and joints, restoring natural posture, and encouraging proper movement patterns.

Sekkotsu (pronounced “seck-kot-su”) literally means “bone setting”, and was originally practiced by martial arts healers in Japan to treat injuries, strains, and dislocations. Today, it’s evolved into a powerful hands-on method for rebalancing the body — especially the spine, pelvis, hips, shoulders, and neck.

ANMA & REMEDIAL MASSAGE

At Kenko Clinic, Anma Massage is a core part of how we support your body’s natural ability to heal. Anma (pronounced “An-mah”) is one of the oldest forms of traditional Japanese massage, practiced for over 1,500 years.

Rooted in the wisdom of Eastern medicine, Anma focuses on stimulating energy pathways (meridians), releasing tension, improving circulation, and calming the nervous system.

But here at Kenko Clinic, we’ve taken it a step further by including remedial massage which incorporates the use of warming oils.

JAPANESE MOVING CUPPING

At Kenko Clinic, we offer a deeply relaxing and restorative therapy called Japanese Moving Cups — a traditional practice with modern benefits. Rooted in centuries of Japanese healing wisdom, this technique combines gentle suction with smooth, flowing movements to encourage your body’s natural ability to heal and rebalance.

GUA SHA

Release tension. Boost circulation. Restore vitality.

At Kenko Clinic, we sometimes include Gua Sha (pronounced gwa-sha) as part of your treatment — a simple, yet powerful technique that helps release muscle tension, fascia restriction, and stagnant circulation.

Using a smooth-edged jade Gua Sha tool, we gently “scrape” along the skin in long, flowing strokes to stimulate blood flow and lymphatic drainage, breaking down blockages and easing tight or painful areas.

MET (MUSCULAR ENERGY TRANSFER)

Muscular Energy Transfer (MET) is a gentle, yet highly effective technique used to improve muscle function, joint mobility, and overall balance. It works by using your own muscle energy—through carefully guided contractions and releases—to reset tension, lengthen muscles, and realign joints.

During an MET session, your practitioner will guide you to gently contract specific muscles while in a precise position. This contraction, combined with subtle stretching and controlled release, helps your muscles and joints move more freely and restores natural balance.

FAR INFRARED LAMP THERAPY

At Kenko Clinic, we use a special therapeutic device called the TDP Far Infrared Heat Lamp — often described by our clients as "like being warmed by the sun, from the inside out." This gentle yet deeply effective therapy supports healing at a cellular level and is a wonderful complement to acupuncture, massage, or used on its own.

FAQs

Answers to Your Holistic Health Queries at Kenko Clinic

What do I need to know before my visit?

Before Your Treatment

To help you get the most from your Japanese Integrated Medicine session, a little preparation makes a big difference:

• Drink plenty of water beforehand to keep your body hydrated.

• Wear loose, comfortable clothing — a T-shirt and jogging bottoms are ideal.

• Please switch off your phone before entering the treatment room to allow full relaxation and focus.

Your First Treatment

• Your first visit can last anywhere between 90 – 120 minutes depending on your needs. It allows time to complete a short health form, talk through your medical background, and understand how your body feels and moves.
• I’ll also check your posture and alignment, carry out gentle muscle testing, and finish with a full treatment designed to bring your body back into balance.

Follow-Up Treatments

• Ongoing sessions usually last between 60–75 minutes, depending on your individual needs and how your body responds.
• Each treatment is tailored to support your natural healing process and overall sense of wellbeing.

What to Wear

• Japanese Integrated Medicine is a fully clothed therapy for most of the treatment, so please wear loose, comfortable clothing such as jogging bottoms and a T-shirt.
Avoid jeans or any tight or heavy clothing that could restrict your movement.

• Massage is included at the end of every treatment to help your body integrate the changes made during the session.
This may include remedial or deep tissue techniques using oils, with certain areas uncovered as needed — always with care and respect for your comfort and privacy.

Changing Facilities

There isn’t a separate changing room, but you’re welcome to change in the treatment room, where privacy and comfort are always respected.

What should I do after my treatment?

Your body will continue to rebalance and adjust after your session. To support this process and encourage lasting benefits:

• Avoid heavy physical exercise for 24 hours (e.g. gym, running, or high-intensity workouts).

• Limit dehydrating and/or inflammatory drinks (coffee, tea, fizzy drinks, etc.) to help your body stay calm and hydrated.

• Eat light, easy-to-digest foods to give your digestive system a rest.

• Drink plenty of water to aid natural recovery and cleansing.

• Avoid alcohol straight after the treatment.

• Allow yourself to rest or sleep if you feel tired — this is your body’s way of healing.

Above all, be kind to yourself and give your body the space it needs to settle and restore balance.
